Product Description STAR WARS AOTC ZAM WESELL'S SPEEDER
Editorial Review This toy's main attraction is that the two front prongs of the craft crumple up on impact (with a wall, the floor, etc.) in a convincing manner, as the rubber that covers the prongs really looks like mashed-up metal. A press of the button makes them pop back into place, good as new. Fortunately, the speeder, with a nice level of detail on the surface and inside the cockpit, has other good features that will entertain Star Wars fans tired of crashing the fenders. The cockpit is supposed to fit "most" Star Wars action figures, but we found that some figures are difficult to seat and remove easily due to cramped space. Sticklers for authenticity may object that the rubber of the front of the speeder makes it look slightly different than the rest of the craft, but for fans looking for a sturdy, detailed Star Wars vehicle with a unique twist, this fits the bill nicely. --David Stoesz

Awesome!!! November 6, 2003 This ship is great! Zam wessel with the break off arm and the quick-draw action fits really well. The only problem that I can detect is that it is hard to get any figure to look like they are actually piloting the ship, but then I guess I can blame it on George Lucas that the pilot has to lie down! Overall I love it! Especially the blast off panels!!!
WESELL'S VESSEL October 21, 2002 To begin, you really CAN'T ACTUALLY FIT the Zam Wesell figure in the craft without some serious contortioning of plastic-and once in, just dash any hope of positioning the figure in any VAGUELY realistic pose! Poor figure access aside, the craft sports an inaccurate and bright green and yellow paint job. The craft also features collapsable front mandibles to simulate a collision. These are encased in some type of rubber/plastic-like material which is very poor at maintaining the sleek ships' lines. Dual rear tail spikes are also made from the same stuff and regardless of how hard you try, still can't be made to stay straight. you would think we were still vack in the Kenner toy days

Just got this toy today. I had not planned on buying it, but after seeing it in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, I realized how cool it was. The product seems to be very durable, and the "crash" effect is very unique (frankly, I've never seen anything like it). The front is made of a high-quality painted rubberish-plastic, with the top panels being made of hard plastic. When you hit the front very hard, the front crunches in, sending the top panels flying off, and revealing the machinery inside. Then, you can uncrunch them by pressing a button on the back and do it all over again. Very cool. The paint on the rubber part doesn't seem to rub off (as of yet) on mine, so that's definitely a good thing if you have younger siblings like me. The front of the cockpit opens, so you can insert a figure to pilot it. The inside of the cockpit is pretty dang cool, with movable flight controls, little buttons, a view screen, and foot pedals. However some larger/taller figures may not fit inside. Also, be warned: only the basic Attack of the Clones Zam Wesell ...seems to fit inside, while the Attack of the Clones "Preview" version seems a bit more difficult to cram inside the tiny cockpit. Overall: excellent toy. I'm sure younger kids would get a kick out of playing with this, and maybe even some big ones (like me).
I'm So Conflicted... May 18, 2002 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
This was a cool vehicle in the movie, and a cool toy upon first glance. The detail and coloring are above average, and I like the detail and controls inside the cockpit, though I don't know how I'll get Zam in there and posed correctly because it's cramped. The real thing that troubles me is the "blow-apart crash action". Basically you crash the front of the ship into something solid, two panels pop off, and the front end crumples just like a real crash. Neat effect, but it is accomplished through the use of a rubber front end. The two large protrusions on the front of the ship are made out of rubber. This makes them look wavy and out of place compared to the rest of the plastic ship. Is it too much to ask for a simple scale-relica with no gimmicks? For kids this seems to be a great toy and a lot of fun, but for older people seeking more realism it leaves something to be desired. Still, I have to commend Hasbro for coming up with such a unique and well-working mechanism for the crash action. I just wish it didn't look so bad.
