Best X-Wing TOY so far !!! October 8, 2004 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
The only gripe I have is that there is no R2 unit included. The pilot is included and is a nice touch. It has much better scale and proportions than the other X-Wing from Hasbro of Kenner.
If you are a collector you will absolutely love it! I wasn't disappointed!
The best X-wing on the market August 24, 2004 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
This is the third iteration of this Xwing (the first being the PowerFX and the second Luke's Red5 with R2D2 in 2002). This was flown under the sign "red 1" and is NOT Luke's. It has a cleaner look to it; there is no yellow stripe, and it has only one stripe on the wing which is technically accurate.
On the toy, it seems they've slightly updated the plastic mixture as it seems less prone to warping than the previous ones and the wings fit together tightly (they wobbled a bit on the older ones). Scale wise, it is probably 9/10 compared to the figures...close enough (the older 1977 and 1995 Xwings and the current trilogy collection Xwing are like 1/2 scale...yuck).
It has some educational value...at least if your child wants to learn the dimensions and nuances of the Xwing (it does encourage reading I guess).
All in all, I love it. It doesn't come with an astromech droid, but since I have like 10 it is no big deal. Remember, R2-D2 does NOT BELONG IN THIS SHIP AS IT IS NOT RED 5. Eh, you can do what you want, but you won't be accurate. The figure fits perfectly; the body is based on the 2001 version of Luke with the generic head they've used a few times.
Nice X-wing! August 24, 2004 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is a very nice looking X-wing. I find that not only is it better scaled than the OTC X-wing, it is better painted. I'm fine with the lack of a droid, and the rear landing gear are okay, I wish it would have a larger cockpit and some electronics. Overall, nice model.
One Of The Best X-Wings!!!!! August 3, 2004 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
The Red Leader X-Wing is possibily my favorite Star Wars vehicle in my collection. It comes complete with wings that move into attack position,an opening cockpit that fits the Red Leader figure in it(Included!),a fold down seat in the cockpit for storage, fold out landing gear, and a slot for an R2 unit. The wings spread apart nicely into attack position using a switch on the back that you push down and to the right to lock the wings. The Red Leader figure is good for the X-Wing and maybe some other ships, but not for anything else. He has moveable joints only at his hips, shoulders, and neck. His helmet is not removeable and his face is not very detailed. However, the rest of his body is in fact very detailed. He fits in the ship very well and looks good in it. The opening and closing action on the cockpit works very well, and stays shut and open when you want it to. The fold down cockpit seat is a nice little feature for whatever purpose you want it to serve. There are three places on the ship where the landing gear comes out. One on the front of the X-Wing that folds out and locks nicely. Then two on the bottom of the two bottom thrusters in the back. They are both shorter than the front one and do not lock as well. If touched slightly in the right direction they will fold up easily leaving it crooked and uneven. Only down side to the landing gear. Otherwise it looks perfect for display when they are out. The slot for the droid is nice but too bad a droid was not included. I put one of my own R2-D2s into the slot but that was not the real droid that Red Leader had(Duh! Luke had R2-D2). The Droid also doesn't fit in tightly or snap in,so no upside down flying or else bye bye R2! One last thing, the two guns on the right wing are crooked, one pointing too far to the right and one pointing too far to the left. I don't know if they are all like this or if mine was just a little defective. I tried to fix it a million times in a million different ways, but it just kept bending back. Now I just ignore it. Overall it is one of my favorite Star Wars vehicles and you should buy it now while it is still on sale.
Star Wars X-Wing Fighter Red Leader by Hasbro June 3, 2004 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
My son received this toy from his grandparents. He LOVES it. I only wish the toy came with an R2 unit. You can buy the R2 action figure to slide in the slot, but until you have that, it just doesn't look right.I'm a little concerned about the durability of the wings. You can have it in attach mode, or x-wing mode. Time will tell how well that feature holds up. Overall, really, really cool.
