Product Description Once the loyal companion to Queen Amdala, this roughly 14" utility droid is now programmed to be your devoted helper and friend. Grab his attention by saying "Hey, Artoo!" and he's ready for more than 40 voice commands! Ask him if he remembers his famous friends, like Luke Skywalker, C-3PO or Jabba the Hutt. Each name will stir up a different response depending on Artoo's "feelings" for that character. Just a few of Artoo's amazing attributes include moving along on his own, turning his front beam on and off, and even playing a secret message when you follow the proper voice commands. In "Game" mode, Artoo plays the hide-and-seek game of Light Tag, dances to cantina music, guards your room with his sentry alarm , or even jazzes up your next party with "Spin The Droid." Once you've mastered Artoo's "companion" and "game" modes, move on to "command" mode for plotting real-time maneuvering or programmed courses for the droid to follow! Artoo also boasts a secret cargo compartment and a unique swing-down utility arm that's also a beverage holder! Window box packaging.

expensive and not as good as advertised August 15, 2008 I purchased this item for my grandson who is a huge Star Wars fan. He is 5 years Old. He was really excited to get it but once he received it, he found it to be a major dissapointment. one of the voice commands would be accepted by his voice. His older brother also met with the same results. My daughter was also not very succesful. It oes owever respond to the voice of my son in law. M daughter called Hasbro and was told that the product was not very good and they had been receiving several complaints and have stopped making it, but several retailers are still selling it.
Fantastic...and frustrating August 5, 2008 We bought this item for our 5 year-old who has, er, developed a strong interest in Star Wars. He was thrilled when he opened it, but he and the rest of the family have grown frustrated in getting it to do anything besides chirp at us. The "gems" mentioned in the other reviews are greatly appreciated, but right now I can only hope that we can get it working. My son has given over on even turning it on now, and he just plays with it "dark" (children are amazingly resourceful, but I have to think that if this is the highest use, it should be about $[...] less. One other element of frustration: we bought it from one of the Amazon affiliates who touted "shipping within 24 hours." Well, it was closer to 48+ hours, and the standard UPS shipping (ground) was over $[...].
Slightly disappointed August 4, 2008 We bought this toy for our son for his birthday. We downloaded all sorts of phrases to say to get R2 to do different things. He doesn't listen well. The toy really doesn't work as well as we had expected. Most times it freezes up and we have to shut it off and start all over again. Our son is slightly disappointed with it. I think it was a waste of 100 bucks.
Good, but limited in scope March 15, 2008 ASIN: ASIN R2d2 - Interactive Robot, is quite good for younger children. Our 7-yr old enjoys playing with this little character. In the month since he received this toy, the child has learned a lot about voice-activation. We can see that he will soon tire of it, because he cannot add to the limited commands. For e.g., he said that there was only one audio-message. So he tried to enter more by saying: "Record new message." Of course, he could not.
It would be superb if there were other command modules available.
WONDERFUL ROBOT!!!! January 7, 2008 We bought this for our 6 year old "Star Wars" fan grandson for Christmas. If anything can bring a smile to his face, it'll be something Star Wars related. When Christmas morning arrived and he opened R2 up, I thought he was going to hyperventilate! He was SO impressed with how realistic he looked and once he turned him on and started talking to R2 and giving him commands, well, lets just say that it was the hit of Christmas morning and has been ever since! We think it's funny how true to the movie he is in that sometimes he gets stubborn and refuses to do as you command, and that's not because he just isn't working right. He shakes his head "no" if he isn't in the mood to do as you say, which makes for alot of laughter. The sound level is perfect (not too loud or too quiet), he does a multitude of different things which keeps a childs attention and he's very durable considering the shape of him. The only thing you need to be careful of is that when R2 is up and about, make sure there are no strings or other items that might get stuck in his wheels. Other than that, he's absolutely amazing and incredibly entertaining!
