Misbehaving Disappointment - a 9 yr. old's view August 3, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this for my 9 year old nephew and his techie "Star Wars" nut Dad. My nephew was SOOOOOOOOOOOOO excited on Christmas Day when he recieved it. Not so excited when the voice activation just fails to work well. He says Thought it might be broken - but it works a bit, occassionally for one command - and then I read the other reviews where everyone else (many of them as tech-savvy as my brother) couldn't get it to work right either.
Here it is in my nephew's word: "If you swat him on the head, he'll do something. He just misbehaved. I haven't used it since I played with him the first night on Christmas eve."
My bottom line: VERY DISSAPPOINTING QUALITY.
Surprisingly Durable! Kids are still playing with toy after 2 years!!, July 6, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We've had this toy for several years. My wife actually bought it for me, but my kids soon co-opted it from me. It's an enjoyable toy that has held up to the kids, though they really haven't been particularly rough with it. The voice commands don't work as reliably as I would like, but the toy is fun. My kids enjoy chattering at R2, though they haven't quite grasped the need to give a sequential series of commands. They especially like to watch R2 going into Dance Mode. Overall, I highly recommend it.
Really bad voice recognition June 25, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Visually, the kids loved it, and even non-interactive it became a friend. However, the voice recognition seemed really bad. It was really hard for my little kids to interact with it and the adults had to step in, and even for a computer programmer, it was troublesome to talk to.
About the funnest time the kids had with it, is when you beat it on the head, he complains. That feature seemed to work the most consistent (not to mention helps work out the frustration you have talking to it). :)
Garage sale wonder June 23, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I found my R2 at a garage sale, actually. I spent thirty on him and a few months later I learned his true value. He was completely worth thirty dollars, though and I would have probably paid three times that much if I had to. I don't play with him very often, but he is always a laugh when people come over. They're always so curious about the little droid sitting in my house. And since he sits in my living room, he adds to the decor as well. He's definitely my most coveted possession.
Not great. February 5, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
The other reviews and product info imply that this is great fun. Its not. The novelty wears off quickly, and as a robot, he really does not do much. My kids have not touched it in a long time.
