The weapon swiftly extends to more than three feet long. View larger. | Just Like the Movies Originally the lightsaber of Anakin Skywalker, this weapon was passed on to Luke but tragically lost during a fierce contest against the evil Darth Vader in the cloud city of Bespin. In your hands, this weapon can once again serve to save the galaxy. This weapon swiftly extends to more than three feet long with the sliding of a button. The spring-activated blade is made with translucent blue plastic. Built-in segments fully retract into the handle, and the blade is illuminated with bands of light. While it's intended for use against another lightsaber--and not a person or animal--the blade is built from a safer, softer plastic than the durable, hard plastic handle, just in case. The silver and black handle features dynamic accents. Realistic Sounds For more than 30 years, Stars Wars fans the world over have been inspired to make their own lightsaber sound effects, but now, the Force Action Lightsaber does it for you. The toy creates the distinctive power-activated "humming" drone that creates anticipation in moments between swings. This lightsaber also replicates the burst of electricity as the saber turns on and the blade extends as well as the "wave" of the blade as it hovers through the air. Using the Force Unlike the lightsabers of the Star Wars movie, the toy doesn't retract with the push of a button. After turning the weapon off, the blade can be collapsed by hand--but be careful not to jam the blade too tightly into the handle. A couple of times while playing with the lightsaber, the blade did not extend when the power was activated; the sound effects started up, but the "on" button had to be pressed more than once to get the blade out. The on/off button looks as if it should also control the volume of the lightsaber--but it does not. Parents who get sick of the "humming" can remove the batteries, as the lightsaber requires three AA batteries (not included) for its lights and sounds. But Skywalker's Lightsaber wouldn't be half the fun without its glowing arc-wave energy blade, and the blue light is especially mesmerizing in the dark. While it's always exciting to fight against villains, the lightsaber is a great toy for young Jedis learning to wield the Force on their own.

Works halfway about half the time December 25, 2008 I'm surprised at the number of positive reviews for this item. I purchased two of them at the same time; this Luke version and one of the Vader ones. Out of the box they initially worked and then after about 3 minutes of proper use, they both malfunction. The Luke version would extend and retract, but the electronics were gone; no lights and no sound. The Vader version had the electronics work sporadically and mostly were reversed. It only has one button that extends the "blade" and turns on the lights and sound. They ended up reversed and would turn on when the blade was retracted and off when extended. Just realize what a cheaply made toy you're getting and you might not be disappointed.
Fun toy! But I wish the light were brighter. November 21, 2008 This is a great toy! The actual handle itself is GORGEOUS! I thought it would be shorter and smaller than that, but it's beautiful and very long. I love looking at it. The blade is awesome! The spring action is so much cooler than I thought it would be. I love the lightsaber sounds. I play with this thing a lot in my room, I look a bit silly playing with a lightsaber with heels on, haha, but I cannot deny my dying obsession for this thing. The only reason I have this a 4 is becuase I wish the blade was brighter. Great toy though. :)
Holding up well... December 3, 2007 I am writing this review a year after I purchased this lightsaber for my 11 year old son. He has three younger brothers and among the four of them they own virtually every type and color of lightsaber under US$30 that has been sold.
This sword has been one of their favorites and, after numerous battles with neighborhood kids, has held up well. It still auto-extends fully, and both lights and sounds work. My one gripe is that it goes through batteries quickly.
Perhaps we were fortunate with the lightsaber that was delivered to us or maybe my boys have learned to be more gentle with their swords after others have broken (doubtful), but this has turned out to be a good buy for us.
GREAT February 20, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is a great item, so are the other force action lightsabers, but luke was the best one. Obi Wan's was sort of short.I am home from school right now because I am ill. But the force action light sabers are great! I always wanted a lightsaber that would poop up when you push a button. to put it down, oush the saber-part down or the button. Also buy HALF-LIFE games, from steam. buy them from steam client,(download them to) and download the steam client. go to [...] for more info
How cool is this? February 19, 2007 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
My son loves it. I love it. We have 3 of these. I bought one here that was defective, contacted Amazon, they shipped a replacement out that same day by overnight. Stuff happens, Amazon fixes the issue. I love the lightsaber. Always wanted something like this as a kid, now I have a kid that wants one...I am still a total geek or what? The lightsaber rules! The old extend yourself that we have seem so plain now....
