Amazon.com Product Description Use the force with the incredible Force Action Lightsaber! Just like in the Star Wars movies, this toy weapon springs into action, lights up, and makes realistic lightsaber sounds. The weapon of choice for a Jedi, this toy is recommended for children ages six and up.
It lights up and makes realistic lightsaber sounds, just like in the Star Wars movies. View larger. |
The weapon swiftly extends to more than three feet long. View larger. | Just Like the Movies When the two forces of good and evil meet in battle, the clash of their blades echoes throughout the galaxy. This Jedi Council lightsaber's design is the same as the weapons wielded by the heroic Jedi and the sinister Sith. This weapon swiftly extends to more than three feet long with the sliding of a button. The spring-activated blade is made with translucent green plastic. Built-in segments fully retract into the handle, and the blade is illuminated with bands of light. While it's intended for use against another lightsaber--and not a person or animal--the blade is built from a safer, softer plastic than the durable, hard plastic handle, just in case. The silver handle features dynamic-looking accents. Realistic Sounds For more than 30 years, Stars Wars fans the world over have been inspired to make their own lightsaber sound effects, but now, the Force Action Lightsaber does it for you. The toy creates the distinctive power-activated "humming" drone that creates anticipation in moments between swings. This lightsaber also replicates the burst of electricity as the saber turns on and the blade extends as well as the "wave" of the blade as it hovers through the air. Using the Force Unlike the lightsabers of the Star Wars movie, the toy doesn't retract with the push of a button. After turning the weapon off, the blade can be collapsed by hand--but be careful not to jam the blade too tightly into the handle. A couple of times while playing with the lightsaber, the blade did not extend when the power was activated; the sound effects started up, but the "on" button had to be pressed more than once to get the blade out. The on/off button looks as if it should also control the volume of the lightsaber--but it does not. Parents who get sick of the "humming" can remove the batteries, as the lightsaber requires three AA batteries (not included) for its lights and sounds. But the Jedi Council Lightsaber wouldn't be half the fun without its glowing arc-wave energy blade, and the red light is especially mesmerizing in the dark. While it's always exciting to fight against villains, the lightsaber is a great toy for Jedis learning to wield the Force on their own.

Fits the bill! July 17, 2008 I got two for my 6 yr old who is obsessed with Star Wars. They are perfect. They're very clunky, but he doesn't care. When they extend they light up and the noise starts, and it changes sound when the sword is swung. And, they make a shut down noise when you push them closed. He loves them, and they seem very durable. He's been playing with them a month, and they haven't broken or shown signs of doing so(unlike the majority of the rest of the so called cool toys he got for his birthday).
This is a great product for the price. And a bonus that it comes in different colors. I give it 4 stars because it is so clunky making it not as good a toy for a younger kid, and because the sound doesn't always do what it's supposed to - like it sometimes doesn't start or shut down when it is supposed to. However, it's the best option I've found and is an excellent price.
Great toy, and can be enhanced. June 4, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've always been into lightsabers, but also always had the crappy ones where the light stops working after a year, and is usually muti-colored. Then $100 lightsabers that were really nice appeared, but I couldn't afford them. Then these $20 Hasbro ones were created and, once I found out, I immediately bought the Anakin changing blade. Then, a few years later, I wanted another, so I bought this one. Both of these lightsabers are great, this one even more so with the fact that it hums and is spring-activated. The only thing I didn't like about them is that you can't hook them to your belt, so I quickly made a system to allow it. There are two plastic piecesnear the top (where the blade comes out). If you're careful (and over the age of 15), you can drill a small hole through these plastic pieces and thread a key ring through the holes. Then attach a clip to this ring. Now, go get a belt hook and another key ring and attach those two together. Now, clip the clip to the ring attached to the belt hook and voila, you can attach it to your belt and it's easy to remove and attach via the clip. I've done this to both lightsabers and it works very well.
Light Sabre January 19, 2008 I bought two of these lightsabres for my boys(ages 4&6). So far they have held up to hours of sword fighting. The boys absolutely love them. They glow and hum just like the real thing. If you have little Star Wars fans in your house, I gaurantee they will love them too!
U should have SEEN the kids' faces! December 27, 2007 We bought a lightsaber thru amazon for both our son (3) and his cousin (4) for christmas - omigosh - it was WORTH it just to see their faces the first time they extended the blades! LOL - PURE joy - AWESOME!!!!! We thought they'd hurt each other fighting with them, but they were more interested in extending the blade over and over again - what a RUSH!!!! ;-) My son DID extend it into his nose (OUCH) once, b/c he had it aimed in the wrong direction when pushing the button. MANY tears, but missed his eye, thank goodness - I can see the potential danger there, but after that one time, he'll never do THAT again :-) He was one of the lucky ones I'm sure - When it happened, I wondered, how many kids would be in the hospital Christmas day for extending action light saber injuries? Seriously, b/c every store around HERE were SOLD OUT of this toy before Christmas!!! Well, my son forgave it and still LOVES it - still gets that rush from extending it and has acquired a new laugh b/c of it: kind of an evil, cackling "ha Ha HA!!!!!!" SO funny!!!! We'd buy it again if given the chance - In fact, I have the vader blade in my cart at this very moment - gotta have an opponent for him, right? And Dad is eager to live vicariously through his son!!!! :-DHasbro Star Wars Obi-Wan Force Action Extending LightsaberStar Wars Jedi Council Force Action LightsaberHasbro Star Wars Vader Force Action Extending Lightsaber
Hours of great fun November 2, 2007 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This saber has provided hours of "battling" fun for our Star Wars loving kids. First, it "pops" out (spring loaded), glows, and "hums" while being used. We bought 2 and the boys (7 and 9 yrs) love to battle, and they fight the correct way, not to hurt, but to have tons of fun. Great price ($10), 1/2 of what they are in the store, with no shipping or tax to boot!
